The Carolina Panthers were headed towards another crucial kick to tie the game and force overtime after a successful walk-off field goal in the previous week.

However, the time on the clock ran out before anything else.

With only 19 seconds remaining on the clock following a field goal by Anders Carlson, Bryce Young and the offense assumed control of the game. Young successfully made a pass to advance into scoring territory, but the subsequent spike hit the ground as the clock ran out, resulting in a 33-30 loss for the Panthers against the Green Bay Packers.

Interim head coach Chris Tabor expressed his disappointment, stating that he believed the Panthers deserved an additional second on the clock after their last-second spike. He also shared his disappointment for the players in the locker room, acknowledging their efforts and determination in the game. Losing is never easy and it is painful for the team.

Young had a successful career day, throwing 23 out of 35 passes for two touchdowns and achieving his first 300-yard passing game as a professional.

The rookie quarterback stated that the team’s performance was on par with how they have been practicing together. However, they still need to improve in order to be successful. Nevertheless, it serves as a solid foundation for the team to grow from.

Young appeared to form a solid bond with experienced wide receiver DJ Chark, particularly when they joined forces in a comeback effort to overcome a 14-point disadvantage.

During the fourth quarter, Chark successfully completed a crucial third and 12 play that allowed his team to continue their desperate drive. Immediately after, he was able to make a catch for an 11-yard touchdown in the middle of the field, marking his first touchdown since Week 9.

The Panthers attempted a two-point conversion, but were penalized for holding. They also experienced Eddy Pineiro missing his second extra point of the game, resulting in a remaining 8-point difference.

Following a successful three-and-out by the Carolina defense, the Young-to-Chark connection remained productive.

The Panthers were able to advance 20 yards and get within scoring range, thanks to a penalty against Green Bay for unnecessary roughness (their third personal foul penalty of the day).

After sixty seconds, Young searched for Chark once more in the end zone. This time, he made a remarkable diving catch, bringing the Panthers within two points.

During the critical two-point conversion, the Panthers utilized a run play with third-string running back Raheem Blackshear, resulting in a touchdown and a tied game.

The Panthers almost prevented the Packers from advancing on the next drive, but a critical play on third down completely changed the momentum and potentially the result of the game.

On a 3rd down and 4, Jordan Love threw a long pass to Romeo Doubs, who executed an impressive 36-yard reception over Troy Hill Jr.

The Panthers questioned the validity of the play as it seemed like Doubs may have had trouble controlling the ball while on the field. Despite this, upon further examination, the catch was deemed legitimate and the Packers were given a first down within kicking distance of the goal.

The Panthers were greatly affected by the lost timeout during the challenge, as Green Bay managed to run down the clock to less than one minute before Carlson’s successful chip shot for the go-ahead field goal.

Overall, the Packers found the endzone on six out of their nine drives and accumulated 369 yards. Aaron Jones rushed for 127 yards on 21 attempts, while Jordan Love passed for 219 yards and recorded three touchdowns in total.

In the defeat, the Panthers achieved 389 yards and scored a season-best 30 points.

Tabor praised [Bryce] for being in charge and leading the game in the desired manner. Tabor has always recognized [Bryce] as a talented player and his skills were evident in today’s performance.

Next week, they will face Jacksonville before ending the season at home against Tampa Bay.
