The 10th seed North Carolina State defeated 15th seed Louisville 94-85 in the initial round of the ACC Tournament on Tuesday night. Despite a strong 36-point effort from Skyy Clark, it was not enough to secure a win for Louisville.

NC State, with a record of 18-14, will move on to face the No. 7 seeded Syracuse in the next round on Wednesday. The Wolfpack were defeated by the Orange in both of their previous matchups this season, with scores of 77-65 on the road and 87-83 at home.

Clark scored consecutive 3-pointers, evening the score at 75 points each with 4:50 remaining in the game, and achieved a personal best of 30 points. However, Taylor countered with two successful shots from behind the 3-point line, giving N.C. State an 81-77 advantage.

In the last three minutes, N.C. State scored 11 points from free throws to secure their victory. The team went 33 for 40 from the foul line, with a streak of 13 consecutive successful shots made by Morsell. Louisville had a perfect record of 11 for 11 from the line.

Michael O’Connell contributed 16 points, DJ Burns Jr. tallied 12 points, and Ben Middlebrooks earned 11 points for N.C. State’s team. Unfortunately, DJ Horne, who typically leads the team in scoring with an average of 16.8 points per game, was unable to play due to a hip injury.

Clark went 12 for 17 from the field, with 7 successful 3-point shots, for Louisville (8-24). The team ended their season with an eight-game losing streak and the future of coach Kenny Payne is uncertain. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield contributed 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Tre White added 13 points.

In the first half, Louisville had a maximum lead of 12 points, but it decreased to only 1 point at halftime when they turned the ball over 9 times. They had a 66.7% shooting percentage in the first half, making 6 out of 9 shots from behind the 3-point line.

The initial scoring for Louisville’s substitute players was recorded when Curtis Williams made a jump shot from the free-throw line with 12:46 left in the second half, bringing the score to 61-54. Williams contributed five points, making them the only points scored by the reserve players for the Cardinals.

In the ACC Tournament, Clark scored an impressive number of points, breaking the program’s previous record for single-game points. Prior to this, his highest single-game score was 29 in a double-overtime win against New Mexico State on Nov. 26.
