The No. 8 Independence girls’ team got off to a fiery start, resulting in a significant victory against Garinger.


The Independence girls’ basketball team, ranked number 8, made a strong comeback after experiencing their first defeat of the season in a devastating loss on Tuesday night.

On Friday evening, the Patriots journeyed to the other side of town and emerged victorious with a 73-25 score in their conference game against Garinger.

Kaylee Carson and Chloe Moss both scored 18 points, leading the team.

The five players on the starting team collaborated to initiate the game with a 27-point first quarter. Carson contributed 8 of those points, while Kamryn Kitchen led the way with 7 points of her own.

After dominating the first quarter with a 21-point lead, Moss continued to shine in the second quarter. She scored 8 out of her total 18 points during this period, helping Independence maintain their lead with a comfortable score of 45-19 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Patriots effectively sealed the game by intensifying their defense and preventing Garinger from scoring. The consistent defensive pressure also resulted in successful scoring opportunities, including three-pointers from Carson and Makinley Sellars.

Out of the 10 girls who played for Independence, 9 of them scored points in the game.

Raziah Williams was the top scorer for the Wildcats in the first half with a total of 10 points.

The Patriots’ next game will be against Millbrook at the Dexter Cooley Showcase, held at Wakefield High School in Raleigh on Saturday, December 16th. On Wednesday, December 20th, Garinger will have a home game against Porter Ridge.
