The No. 2 Central Cabarrus boys dominated in a win against the No. 9 The Burlington School.


In a highly anticipated game at their home court, Central Cabarrus, ranked second, improved to a 6-0 record with an impressive 84-55 victory against The Burlington School, ranked ninth, on Friday evening.

Carson Daniel scored the most points with 22. Zion Walker was the top scorer for the Spartans with 11 successful free throws and a game-high of 23 points.

The score was even at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter. Desmond Kent scored the most points for the team with six in the first quarter, while Jordan Durham made two baskets for TBS.

During the second quarter, the Vikings began to take control as Cayden Smith sank two three-pointers from the corner, giving the team a nine-point advantage at halftime.

During the third and fourth quarters, the Spartans’ Walker and the Vikings’ offense engaged in a competitive matchup. Walker demonstrated his skill in maneuvering and identifying openings in an attempt to stage a comeback.

Central Cabarrus dominated the final quarter with multiple players from the Vikings’ team contributing to their offense and causing turnovers for the Spartans.

Next, on Saturday, Dec. 16, The Burlington School and Central Cabarrus will continue their game.

The Spartans are set to compete against Forsyth Country Day, while The Vikings will go up against Hickory Ridge.

This was the last match of the opening day of the Phenom Hoops Ish Smith Showcase held at Central Cabarrus High School.
