The pairings for the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association state playoffs for boys and girls basketball have been determined.

The NCHSAA announced the basketball state playoff brackets at around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday. The first round games will take place on Tuesday at the higher seeded teams’ locations.

The last set of brackets were published after a lengthy process on Saturday. Initially, the NCHSAA announced the final RPI rankings and then the initial brackets. Schools were given the chance to check for any possible mistakes in the initial brackets.

The NCHSAA has finalized the brackets after reviewing school reports and making necessary adjustments. Updates were released for the 2A girls basketball bracket around 3 p.m.

The initial two rounds will take place on February 27 and March 1, respectively. Those who win will progress to the third round on March 5, followed by the fourth round on March 8.

The higher seeded team will host each of the first round games.

This year, the regional and state championships will have a different format. The regional championships will take place from Mar. 11-14 at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem. The state championships will then follow on Mar. 15 and Mar. 16 at the same venue.

This is the inaugural year that the NCHSAA has organized both the regional and state championships in one venue, resulting in a “Final Four” type of ambiance.

• On March 1st, the second round of the tournament will take place at the location of the higher seeded team.

Schedule for Regional and State Championships

The NCHSAA will announce schedules for each classification’s days and times after the second round of playoffs, but the time slots have already been set.

The Regional Championships will take place from Monday to Thursday, with matches scheduled for 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m. on each day.

The State Championships on Friday will consist of games at 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.

The State Championships will take place on Saturday, with games scheduled for 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.
