The National Football League has penalized Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper with a $300,000 fine for throwing a beverage at fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars. This decision was reported on WRALSportsFan.com.
Rewritten: According to sports reporter Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press,
The National Football League (NFL) has imposed a fine of $300,000 on David Tepper, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, for throwing a beverage at fans in Jacksonville during the final moments of a game on Sunday.
The league condemned Tepper’s behavior as “unacceptable” in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The statement declared that all NFL staff must always behave in a manner that shows respect towards our fans and portrays a positive image of their team and the NFL.
Tepper’s response occurred when first-year quarterback Bryce Young made an interception with under three minutes remaining in a 26-0 defeat against the Jaguars.
Tepper expressed remorse for his actions on Sunday and stated that he is a strong supporter of the team. He acknowledged that he should have allowed NFL stadium security to handle any problems that arose. He also stated that he values the NFL’s standards of behavior and will accept the consequences for his behavior.
It was unclear if Tepper’s reaction was in response to something said to him or another defeat for the NFL’s poorest team. The Panthers have a record of 2-14 and will not have the first overall pick in the draft, as it was traded to Chicago in exchange for the top pick to choose Young.
The general manager of the Panthers, Scott Fitterer, was standing with Tepper when he threw away the remnants of his drink while watching the game from a suite in the club.
In 2009, the National Football League imposed a fine of $250,000 on the deceased Titans owner Bud Adams for making an inappropriate hand gesture towards Buffalo fans during Tennessee’s win against the Bills.
Supporters have been prohibited from entering stadiums due to their actions of throwing beverages at players.
This past year has been challenging for Tepper, as he made the decision to let go of first-year coach Frank Reich after only 11 games. In the less than six years since purchasing the Panthers, Tepper has already gone through coaches Ron Rivera, Matt Rhule, and Reich, as well as interim coaches Perry Fewell, Steve Wilks, and Chris Tabor.
