The first ever champions of girls’ wrestling were awarded by NCHSAA, with Lumberton taking home the team title.

Taylor Williams of East Forsyth achieved a historic feat, as did all the other female wrestlers who competed in the first ever NCHSAA girls wrestling state championships over the weekend at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Williams was the first of the first champions, winning at 165 pounds to start the final rounds, but all wrestlers were part of a landmark moment in NCHSAA history.

The team from Lumberton earned a total of 77 points to secure the championship. They had three members place in the state competition, with one of them becoming the state champion.

Leah Edwards from East Rowan was chosen as the Most Outstanding Wrestler for her victory in the 114-pound category by pinfall. She ended the season with an impressive record of 32 wins and only 1 loss.
