Dyaisha Fair from Syracuse, who came in with a total of 3,257 points, had 22 points while shooting 7-of-25. She is just four points away from tying Brittney Griner for fifth place on the all-time scoring list. This game also marked her 22nd consecutive game with double digit points this season.
Syracuse’s Georgia Woolley contributed 11 points to the team’s score of 22-5 (12-4 in the ACC). This was a season low for the team and their lowest score since losing 75-51 to North Carolina on January 4th. The Orange had a poor shooting performance, making only 25% of their shots (14 out of 56) against the Blue Devils, and were outrebounded by a significant margin of 52-25.
In the second quarter, Richardson scored five points for Duke, helping them outscore Syracuse 21-6. This gave Duke a 35-17 lead at halftime. Duke’s Jadyn Donovan also played a key role, grabbing 11 of the team’s season-high 33 rebounds in the first half. Syracuse struggled, missing 12 of 15 shots in the second quarter and only shooting 23% overall in the first half. Fair contributed six points in the first half.
Donovan ended the game with a total of eight points and achieved a new personal best of 15 rebounds. Taina Mair contributed seven points and nine assists for Duke (17-9, 9-6).
Ashlon Jackson hit a 3-point shot to put Duke up 54-34 with 5:20 left in the game. Fair then scored seven points during an 11-2 run, bringing Syracuse to within 11 points at 56-45 with one minute remaining.
In the recent series, Duke has emerged victorious in the past four games and holds a 9-3 overall record. The last time Syracuse defeated Duke was on Jan. 27, 2019 at Cameron Indoor Stadium, with a final score of 64-55.
Duke will conclude a four-game series against top-ranked teams by playing at home on Sunday against No. 6 North Carolina State.
On Sunday, Syracuse will be hosting Pittsburgh.
