The defense of NC State played a pivotal role in their victory against Georgia Tech on WRALSportsFan.com.
On Saturday night, DJ Horne put up 26 points while Jayden Taylor contributed 21, leading North Carolina State to a victory over Georgia Tech with a strong start in the second half.
The team from N.C. State had a record of 15 wins and 7 losses in the ACC conference. They were behind by one point at halftime, but they started the second half strong with a 27-11 run, giving them a 62-48 lead with around nine minutes left. Horne contributed nine points, while Casey Morsell and Jayden Taylor each added six points during this run.
Taylor and Horne shot a combined 14 out of 35 from the field and were responsible for seven of the Wolfpacks’ nine 3-point shots. Morsell scored 15 points and DJ Burns Jr. contributed eight points and 10 rebounds.
NC State converted 21 out of 27 attempts (78%) from the free throw line and only had four turnovers. On the other hand, Georgia Tech shot 17 out of 25 (68%) from the line and had five additional rebounds (47-42), but also allowed 18 points due to 12 turnovers.
Kelly was the top scorer for Georgia Tech (10-12, 3-8), with 20 points and 10 rebounds in their recent game. Despite a big win against No. 3 North Carolina in their previous game, Georgia Tech has lost four of their last five games. Other notable contributors were Naithan George with 18 points and Kowacie Reeves Jr. with 12 points.
In the first half of the game, George earned 12 points while Kelly earned nine, allowing the Yellow Jackets to take a 36-35 lead. The Wolfpack’s Horne also contributed with 10 points in the first half.
On Tuesday, Georgia Tech will host Wake Forest. N.C. State will aim for their third consecutive win as they host Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
