The North Carolina Courage announced on Monday that they have reached an agreement with head coach Sean Nahas to extend his contract for three more years. This means that Nahas will continue coaching the Courage until the end of the 2026 season.
After becoming the head coach in October 2021, Nahas has achieved a record of 29 wins, 21 losses, and 17 draws in all competitions. Under his guidance, the Courage has won consecutive NWSL Challenge Cup titles in 2022 and 2023. He currently holds the record for most wins as a head coach in cup history, with 10 victories.
In 2023, Nahas successfully guided the team to a third-place finish in the regular season, securing their first home playoff game since 2019.
“We are delighted to have reached an agreement to extend Sean’s contract. He is a dedicated student of the sport, having honed his skills as both a youth and professional coach within our club for over 15 years. His teams play an entertaining style of soccer, providing enjoyment for fans and presenting a challenge for our players, while also achieving results. Despite only being our head coach for a short period of time, he has led the Courage to two championships and excelled in possession and passing statistics in the highly competitive league. Chief Soccer Officer Curt Johnson stated that Sean’s tactical philosophy and ability to implement it effectively make him a winning formula.”
“I will be here for an additional three years. This gives us the chance to further develop the strong foundation we established this previous season with our incredible team of players and staff. I am appreciative of the chance to lead this club in the upcoming years and make it a desirable destination for players looking to improve personally and professionally while maintaining the happiness on the faces of our devoted fans that we witnessed over the past year.”
I am grateful for the unwavering support of my amazing team, who continually push me to improve. It brings me joy to continue learning and developing in North Carolina, thanks to their efforts and the contributions of our players. I am committed to playing my role in elevating this club from top to bottom. With courage, I am choosing to stay in my home at this time,” stated Nahas.
