On Tuesday, the team announced that the Carolina Panthers have utilized their franchise tag on Brian Burns, a talented edge rusher.

As a result of the decision, Burns is set to earn a minimum of $24 million during the 2024 season.

In 2023, Burns, aged 25, achieved 8 sacks during the season.

In the last five seasons, the 2019 first-round pick has achieved a total of 46.0 sacks and has been selected for two Pro Bowls. He is among a small group of only five players who have achieved 7.0 or more sacks in each of the last five seasons.

The sole member of the team to have obtained a higher number of sacks in the initial five years of their career was Julius Peppers, totaling 52.5 from 2002-06.

The Panthers haven’t utilized the franchise tag since 2021, when they placed it on their right tackle, Taylor Moton. He was ultimately given a long-term contract later that summer.
