The boys from South Stokes have returned home and have found their way back to victory against North Stokes.

Home sweet home in the Saura Dome.

The boys basketball team of South Stokes played their first home game in more than a month and received a full crowd and a 74-55 win against North Stokes, bouncing back from their only loss of the season last Saturday.

Isiah Lash, Korrin N’Diaye, and Barry Hairston Jr. maintained their dominance in one of 1A basketball’s strongest offenses, scoring a total of 53 points in the victory.

The Sauras were fueled by the energy of their home fans and showed no signs of slowing down from the very beginning. Within just two minutes of the game, the visiting Vikings were faced with a 9-0 deficit.

N’Diaye’s skill in scoring near the basket resulted in eight points for South in the first quarter. Brady Clark added two three-pointers, giving the Sauras a comfortable 27-12 lead at the end of the quarter.

The lead of two digits grew to 21 points when Hairston made his second three-pointer of the game. William Tilley then entered the game and also made two three-pointers.

The scoring streak from beyond the arc for South Stokes continued as N’Diaye hit two three-pointers in the first half. Adding to the total, Hairston also made one just before halftime, increasing the lead to 51-29.

North Stokes managed to outscore the Sauras 26-23 in the second half thanks to the efforts of senior Will Greer who ended up leading all scorers with 29 points.

Greer’s scoring skills near the basket and ability to shoot from beyond the three-point line contributed to 18 of his points in the first half.

During the third quarter, Amos Stanbery scored 12 points, with five of them coming in a 14-point run for the Vikings.

In the third quarter, Isiah Lash contributed seven points for the Sauras, bringing his total to a team-leading 18 alongside N’Diaye.

After three quarters, South was ahead with a score of 64-43 and ultimately emerged as the winner with a final score of 74-55.

The Sauras currently hold a record of 14 wins and 1 loss, and they have yet to be defeated in league matches. They will play at home next Tuesday against Elkin.

At Thursday night’s halftime of the girls varsity game, the boys program recognized Lash and Hairston Jr. for achieving over 1,000 career points while on the team’s recent six-game road trip.

Hairston Jr. achieved the historic feat in the team’s Frank Spencer championship win over Mount Tabor while Lash joined him just two games into the new year on January 10 at East Wilkes.

South Stokes is one of only four boys teams in the state to have two players who have scored 1,000 or more career points. The other teams with this accomplishment are Myers Park, Goldsboro, and The Burlington School.
