The 2023 HighSchoolOT All-State Volleyball Team

The HighSchoolOT volleyball all-state team for the fourth year in a row includes 24 players who have previously been named to the team, with two of them receiving first-team honors three times.

The list of players recognized as all-state includes a first, second, and third team, each with 20 players. The teams are organized according to the following positions: seven outside hitters, one opposite or right-side hitter, two middle blockers, three liberos or defensive specialists, three setters, and four “at-large” spots. Additionally, there is an Honorable Mention list of 40 players, regardless of their specific position.


Recent All-State Selections, Final Standings


The players are arranged first by their position within their team, and then in alphabetical order. The positions were determined according to the coaches association listing, if applicable. If a player played multiple positions, their first position is the one that earned them all-state honors.

Asia Thigpen from Green Level and Belle Patrick from Green Hope have both graduated as our inaugural individuals to be selected three times for the all-state team. As a sophomore, Patrick was on the third team, followed by second team in her junior year, and finally, first team in her senior year. Thigpen is the sole player to have been chosen three times for the first team.

First Team

Megan Brown, a senior at Gaston Day, has a total of 436 kills this season with an average of 5.7 kills per set and a kill percentage of 44.3%. She also has 52 aces, 33 blocks, 262 digs with an average of 3.4 digs per set and 248 assists with an average of 3.3 assists per set. She has also committed 8 ball handling errors and has been recruited by Wofford.

Kiarrah Horne of Millbrook High School has an impressive record with 392 kills, 48 aces, 29 blocks, and 263 digs. Her kill percentage is 48.8% and her hitting percentage is 34.3%. She is also a UCLA recruit.

According to OH, Bella Hutchens from East Surry is a senior who recorded 432 kills with an average of 4.6 per set and a kill percentage of 51.9%. She also had a hit percentage of 38.7% and contributed 59 aces, 53 blocks, and 222 digs with an average of 2.4 per set and 7.9 per match. She has been recruited by Appalachian State.

Paige Overcash from Ashe County High School had an impressive senior year, recording 481 kills with an average of 6 per set and a kill percentage of 49.4%. She also had 32 aces, 29 blocks, and 184 digs with an average of 2.3 per set and 8 per match. She has committed to play at Liberty University.

Belle Patrick from Green Hope High School, a senior, recorded a total of 444 kills, averaging 5.3 kills per set with a kill percentage of 54.0 and a hit percentage of 42.6. She also had 32 aces, 22 blocks, and 257 digs, averaging 3.1 digs per set and 9.9 digs per match. Belle has committed to playing volleyball at Virginia Tech.

Sally Perez, a senior at Middle Creek, had an impressive season with 479 kills, averaging 5.5 per set and a 48.6% kill rate with a 37.0% hit rate. She also recorded 47 aces, 24 blocks, and 149 digs, averaging 1.7 per set and 6.0 per match. She has committed to play beach volleyball at UCLA.

Tyne Ross, a senior at Union Pines High School, had an impressive record this season with 360 kills, 58 aces, 46 blocks, 321 digs, and 16 assists. She also had a kill percentage of 50.2% and a hit percentage of 39.6%. Tyne has committed to playing volleyball at North Carolina A&T.

Laynie Smith from Chapel Hill, a senior, had a total of 352 kills this season with an average of 5.3 kills per set and a kill percentage of 64.6%. She also had 41 aces, 33 blocks, and 75 digs with an average of 1.1 digs per set and 3.4 digs per match. She has committed to play for Illinois in college.
OH: Meile Songaila, Kings Mountain (senior) — 499 kills (4.9/set, 45.7 kill%, 36.5 hit%) / 46 aces / 16 blocks / 337 digs (3.3/set, 9.6/match) / Davidson recruit

Asia Thigpen, a senior at Green Level High School, had 364 kills, with an average of 4.6 per set and a kill percentage of 48.1. She also had a hit percentage of 34.2. In addition, she had 26 aces and 160 digs, with an average of 2.0 digs per set and 7.6 per match. She has committed to play volleyball at the University of Kentucky.

Macy Bolyard, a senior at Northern Guilford High School, had 322 kills this season with a kill percentage of 55.4% and a hitting percentage of 36.1%. She also had 86 aces, 22 blocks, 209 digs, and 444 assists. She is committed to play beach volleyball at the University of Southern California.
OPP/RS: Ryan Hunter, Cox Mill (junior) — 387 kills (4.3/set, 49.9 kill%, 31.7 hit%) / 49 aces / 51 blocks / 169 digs (1.9/set, 6.5/match) / Nebraska recruit

Meleah Foster, a senior player from Brevard, recorded a total of 414 kills during the season. This averages out to 3.8 kills per set and a kill percentage of 55.2%. She also had an impressive hit percentage of 43.1%. Additionally, she had 51 aces, 139 blocks, and 89 digs.

Marlee Cook, a senior at Green Hope, had an impressive season with 49 kills, 70 aces, 6 blocks, and 106 digs. She averaged 1.3 kills per set and 4.1 kills per match, and also recorded 1,021 assists with an average of 12.2 assists per set. She has committed to play for Queens University.

Avery Scoggins, a senior from Middle Creek High School, has recorded a total of 110 kills, 54 aces, 45 blocks, and 218 digs this season. She averages 2.3 digs per set and 8.1 digs per match. In addition, she has also tallied 919 assists (9.9 per set) and 15 ball handling errors. Scoggins has committed to play for Arizona in college.

Jordan Smart from Reagan High School had an impressive performance in their senior year, recording 41 kills, 82 aces, 33 blocks, and 302 digs. Their average of 2.9 digs per set and 7.9 digs per match contributed to their success on the court. Additionally, Smart also had 1,081 assists, averaging 10.4 assists per set. They have also been recruited by James Madison University.
DS/OH: Teagan Hogan, Leesville Road (senior) — 188 kills (2.8/set) / 35 aces / 8 blocks / 259 digs (3.8/set, 13.0/match) / 10 assists / Virginia recruit

Addie Canady from Cary Academy, a junior, had an impressive performance with 26 kills, 66 aces, 0 blocks, and 371 digs (4.9 per set, 18.6 per match). She also contributed 39 assists and has been recruited by Maryland.

Avery Booker, a senior at Middle Creek High School, has achieved 300 kills this season with an average of 3.3 per set and a kill percentage of 42.8. She has also recorded 102 aces, 16 blocks, and 242 digs with an average of 2.6 per set and 9.0 per match. In addition, she has contributed 56 assists and has committed to play volleyball at George Mason University.

Daven Brabble, a senior from Perquimans, had an impressive performance with 397 kills (4.1 per set) and a 48.4% kill rate, along with a 36.9% hit rate. He also had 98 aces, 5 blocks, and 140 digs (1.4 per set and 4.7 per match). He has committed to play for Meredith College (D3).

Julia Gnida, a junior at St. Stephens, had an impressive performance with 467 kills (averaging 4.9 per set, with a 41.9% kill rate and 27.1% hit rate), 52 aces, 26 blocks, 322 digs (averaging 3.4 per set and 12.9 per match), and 28 assists. She has been recruited by the College of Charleston.

“At Cape Fear High School, senior Olivia Melvin had an impressive season with 334 kills, averaging 3.6 kills per set and a kill percentage of 47.6%. She also had 58 aces, 34 blocks, and 242 digs, averaging 2.6 digs per set and 8.3 digs per match. Melvin has committed to play for Mount Olive in Division 2.”

Sophia Overholt from Polk County (junior) had 285 kills with an average of 2.8 per set, a kill percentage of 46.8%, and a hit percentage of 39.4%. She also had 30 aces, 31 blocks, and 371 digs with an average of 3.7 per set and 12.0 per match.

Bailey Rowe from North Henderson, a senior, had an impressive performance with 516 kills (averaging 5.0 kills per set and a kill percentage of 36.9%), 82 aces, 12 blocks, and 240 digs (an average of 2.3 digs per set and 7.5 per match).

Catherine Rucker, a senior from Carrboro High School, had a total of 411 kills with an average of 4.0 per set and a kill percentage of 49.5%. She also had 79 aces, 30 blocks, and 122 digs with an average of 1.2 digs per set and 3.9 per match. She has committed to play for Elon University.

Britni Silver, a sophomore from D.H. Conley, recorded 500 kills with an average of 5.1 kills per set and a 47.3% kill rate, along with a 29.6% hit rate. She also had 56 aces, 26 blocks, and 201 digs, averaging 2.0 digs per set and 7.2 per match.

Josie Zynczak from Middle Creek High School, a senior, had a total of 179 kills with an average of 2.5 kills per set and a kill percentage of 39.3%. She also had 42 aces, 38 blocks, and 153 digs with an average of 2.1 digs per set and 7.3 digs per match. Additionally, she contributed 9 assists and has committed to play for Columbia University.

Talia Francom from Green Level High School, who is a junior, has recorded 146 kills with an average of 1.8 per set and a kill percentage of 46.8%. She also has 35.3% hit percentage, 13 aces, 90 blocks, and 18 digs. She has committed to play for N.C. State in college.

Junior Anne Bradley Bing from Gaston Day School recorded 310 kills with a 4.1/set average and a 34.9% kill rate. She also had 27 blocks, 92 aces, and 320 digs with an average of 4.3/set and 14.3/match. In addition, she had 480 assists with an average of 6.3/set and 11 ball handling errors. She has committed to play for South Carolina.

Camryn Shelton, a senior at Ardrey Kell High School, had an impressive season with 30 kills, 31 aces, 47 blocks, and 175 digs. She averaged 2.5 digs per set and 8.0 digs per match, as well as 7.7 assists per set. She also had 32 ball handling errors and has committed to play collegiate volleyball at the University of Central Florida.

Kacey Gore from McMichael High School (senior) recorded impressive stats of 54 kills, 54 aces, 0 blocks, and 387 digs (3.9 per set, 10.8 per match). She also had 85 assists and has committed to play for Mount Olive in Division 2.

Shalyn Bell from North Stanly High School, a junior, had an impressive performance with 491 kills (5.3 per set, 47.7% kill rate, 37.6% hit rate), 35 aces, 24 blocks, and 231 digs (2.5 per set, 8.0 per match).

Kinnady Boothe, a sophomore from East Forsyth High School, recorded 461 kills with an average of 5.0 per set and a kill percentage of 45.0%. She also had 55 aces, 28 blocks, and 230 digs with an average of 2.5 per set and 9.2 per match.

Arielle Walker, a senior from Cox Mill, had an impressive performance with 328 kills (3.5 per set, 44.6% kill rate, 27.0% hit rate), 41 aces, 39 blocks, and 166 digs (1.8 per set, 5.9 per match).

Savannah Whaley, a senior from Farmville Central, has an impressive record of 371 kills (4.6 per set) with a kill percentage of 50.8% and a hit percentage of 41.0%. She also has 51 aces, 3 blocks, and 260 digs (3.2 per set and 10.4 per match). She has committed to play for UNC-Pembroke in Division 2.

Ella Wimsatt from Orange High School (senior) had a total of 456 kills this season, averaging 4.2 per set with a kill percentage of 37.6% and a hit percentage of 25.7%. She also had 35 aces, 6 blocks, and 419 digs, averaging 3.9 per set and 13.1 per match. She has committed to play for Lenoir-Rhyne University (Division 2).

The player named Josie Zettlemoyer from Marvin Ridge High School, who is a senior, had a total of 307 kills with an average of 3.4 per set and a kill percentage of 41.7%. She also had 36 aces, 22 blocks, and 270 digs with an average of 3.0 per set and 8.4 per match.

Ava Wilkerson, a sophomore at Orange High School, recorded 293 kills with an average of 2.9 per set and a kill percentage of 51.1% while hitting at a rate of 42.1%. She also had 20 aces, 79 blocks, and 52 digs.

McKenzie Williams, a senior from Midway High School, recorded 1 kill, 23 aces, 0 blocks, and 469 digs in her volleyball season. She averaged 5.8 digs per set and 18.0 digs per match, along with 31 assists.

Claire Wilson of Brevard, a junior, has recorded 58 kills, 57 aces, 0 blocks, and 422 digs (with an average of 3.9 per set and 12.8 per match), along with 69 assists.

Reagan Chisholm, a senior from Mallard Creek High School, recorded 423 kills with an average of 4.4 kills per set and a kill percentage of 38.8%. She also had a hit percentage of 23.3%, along with 95 aces, 28 blocks, and 227 digs with an average of 2.3 digs per set and 7.8 digs per match. She also contributed 24 assists.

According to the tweet, senior Jordan Griffin from Hough High School had an impressive season with 363 kills, an average of 4 kills per set, a kill percentage of 38.1%, and a hit percentage of 22.7%. He also had 66 aces, 24 blocks, and 249 digs, averaging 2.7 digs per set and 7.5 per match. He has committed to play for Wingate University in Division 2.

Brooke McCall, a junior at Covenant Day, has a total of 245 kills with an average of 4.0 per set and a kill percentage of 38.0. She also has a hit percentage of 26.8. In addition, she has recorded 22 aces, 12 blocks, and 166 digs with an average of 2.7 per set and 9.8 per match. McCall has been recruited by West Virginia.

Lauren Richardson of South Columbus, a senior, recorded 215 kills with an average of 3.2 per set and a kill percentage of 58.9%. She also had 106 aces, 10 blocks, and 142 digs with an average of 2.1 per set and 6.8 per match.

Keira Rosenmarkle from Seaforth, a sophomore, had 407 kills, with an average of 4.5 per set and a kill percentage of 47.1%. She also had 30.1% hit percentage, 29 aces, 17 blocks, and 193 digs. Her average for digs was 2.1 per set and 6.9 per match.

Taylor Shumate and Jordan (senior) have a combined 334 kills with an average of 3.7 kills per set and a kill percentage of 44.1%. They also have a 24.8% hit rate. Additionally, they have recorded 30 aces, 10 blocks, and 239 digs with an average of 2.7 digs per set and 9.6 digs per match. Taylor Shumate has committed to play for Hampton.

Bree Sinnett, a senior at Butler, achieved 290 kills with an average of 3.6 per set and a kill percentage of 40.4%. She also had a hit percentage of 27.6% and recorded 46 aces, 19 blocks, and 350 digs with averages of 4.3 per set and 15.2 per match.

Brooklyn Stanberry from Watauga High School achieved 430 kills, with an average of 5.0 per set and a kill percentage of 42.0. She also had 36 aces, 24 blocks, and 236 digs, averaging 2.7 per set and 9.8 per match.

Ella Whittington from Hough High School, a senior, had a total of 367 kills this season with an average of 4.0 per set and a kill percentage of 45.1%. She also had 27 aces and 263 digs, with averages of 2.9 digs per set and 7.7 per match.
Player Sydney Abeyounis from Albemarle School is a senior who had a total of 462 kills, with an average of 6.2 per set and a kill percentage of 47.0. She also had 53 aces, 58 blocks, and 152 digs, with an average of 2.0 digs per set and 6.1 per match.

Alissa Clabo from Mount Airy High School is a senior and has recorded 327 kills this season with an average of 3.2 per set. She has an impressive 45.1% kill rate and a 32.0% hitting percentage. On top of that, she has also served 56 aces, made 101 blocks, and dug up 249 balls, averaging 2.4 digs per set and 8.9 per match.

Junior Karaleigh Dodson from Chatham Central had a total of 248 kills, with an average of 2.8 per set and a kill percentage of 55.4%. She also recorded 42 aces, 54 blocks, and 73 digs.

Mallory Jenkins, a senior at Fike High School, has not recorded any statistics and has committed to play for Tennessee Tech University.

Kendall Jones, a senior at Central Cabarrus, had 152 kills with a rate of 2.3 per set and a 47.8% success rate. She also had 31 aces, 100 blocks, and 31 digs. She has committed to play volleyball at Catawba College, a Division 2 school.

Giselle Little from Mountain Island Charter is a senior player with 235 kills, averaging 2.8 per set and a kill percentage of 55.8%. She also has a hitting percentage of 36.1% and has recorded 1 ace, 66 blocks, and 17 digs. She has committed to playing for Winthrop University.

Reagan Smith, a senior at Jordan-Matthews, had an impressive performance with a total of 275 kills (averaging 3.0 per set with a 47.3% kill rate and 33.0% hitting percentage), 104 aces, 145 blocks, and 144 digs (averaging 1.6 per set and 5.8 per match).

Sarah Turner from Lake Norman Charter, a senior, recorded a total of 325 kills with an average of 3.4 kills per set and a kill percentage of 53.3%. She also had a hit percentage of 41.8% and achieved 31 aces, 92 blocks, and 48 digs.

Brooke Bombatepe from Cape Fear High School is a senior with impressive stats in the sport of volleyball. She has a total of 209 kills, averaging 2.3 per set with a kill percentage of 40.3% and a hit percentage of 29.2%.
