Student William Ball from Holly Springs experiences a transformation of both body and mind through the practice of powerlifting on WRALSportsFan.com.
William Ball used to weigh only 105 pounds before he began lifting weights. However, he is now recognized as the strongest powerlifter in the world for his age and weight category.
Finding your inner strength is crucial in order to succeed. At the young age of 17, William Ball is considered the strongest powerlifter in the world for his age and weight category. Personally, I find great joy in following my program and performing well. His maximum official bench press is an impressive £391, nearly four times his previous body weight. In the past, I lacked confidence in myself and relied on others for support. However, William faced a different challenge as he struggled with drug and alcohol use starting at age 13. This behavior put his life in danger multiple times and surrounded him with negative influences. Fortunately, attending a weightlifting class at Holly Springs High School helped him realize his true potential. Just six months later, at the Fall Festival of Power in 2022, William competed in a local meet where the energy and support from the crowd reminded him of his initial excitement when he first started lifting. He went on to participate in USA Powerlifting regional competitions, always striving to be the best and achieve success in his sport. At the 2023 Fall Festival of Power, William set new world records that are now displayed in kilograms on his gym’s walls for everyone to see. Despite the numbers, for William, strength goes beyond physical capabilities. He believes that if he can do it, then anyone can with determination and hard work. He wants others to know that they are not alone in their struggles and that they too can overcome challenges. This is Pat Walter for Wral Sports.
