Spring football transfer portal tracker: Tar Heels reshaping roster again :: WRALSportsFan.com

The spring football transfer portal window opened April 16 and players will be able to enter the portal until April 25.

Here is a look at players coming and going from North Carolina, NC State and Duke.

Beau Atkinson

North Carolina

The Tar Heels finished their first spring practice under new coach Bill Belichick on April 12. The Tar Heels went 6-7 in 2024 under coach Mack Brown.

DE Beau Atkinson: Atkinson, 6-foot-6, 255 pounds, played in 26 games over the last two seasons for the Tar Heels. He had 7.5 sacks in 2024 and 11 for his career. Atkinson, who is from Raleigh, was considered the Tar Heels’ best returning defensive player.

LB Crews Law: Law played in two games as a true freshman in 2024 (vs. Charlotte and NC Central). He was ranked as the No. 23 linebacker in the nation coming out of high school.

LB Cade Law: Law played aseball at Vanderbilt for one season before transferring to UNC to play football. He appeared in 11 games in 2023, mostly on special teams, and 12 games in 2024, according to his UNC bio. He had two tackles, including a sack in the Fenway Bowl.

DB Zion Ferguson: Ferguson, a four-star prospect out of high school in Georgia, played one game as a true freshman 2024, according to his UNC bio.

OL Zach Rice: Rice, a five-star prospect who was considerde the No. 1 offensive tackle in his class, played three seasons with the Tar Heels. He appeared in two games in 2022, 12 in 2023 and the first six games of 2024, according to his UNC bio.

DE Mai Hamrick: Hamrick spent three years in the UNC program and played in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2022. On3 reported that he has entered the portal.

K/P Lucas Osada: Osada kicked off in four games in 2024, his true freshman season. “I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a kicker punter combo with 3 years of eligibility. Much thanks to Carolina, I look forward to what God has in store for me!” Osada wrote.

QB Ryan Browne: Browne, who transferred into the program in December and was among two quarterbacks to get reps during team portions of the public final spring practice, is transferring again, according to On3.

WR Gavin Blackwell: Blackwell played four seasons at UNC, playing in 28 games. He caught 31 passes for 448 yards and one touchdown in his career.

LB Mikai Gbayor (coming to UNC): Gbayor played 25 games at Nebraska over three years, including one game in 2022 and 12 in 2023 (four starts) and 2024 (11 starts). He transferred to Missouri in December. He had 73 tackles over the last two seasons. Gbayor announced his move on social media.

WR Christian Hamilton: A former four-star prospect, Hamilton redshirted his freshman year in 2023. In 2024, Hamilton had seven catches for 159 yards and a touchdown.

QB Hudson Wilharm: Wilharm, from Wilmington, has four seasons of eligibility remaining.

OL Jason Smith: Smith was listed as a redshirt sophomore on the UNC roster. He committed to UNC after decommitting from Air Force in February 2024.

K Liam Boyd: Started his career at Clemsom in 2022. Kicked off 66 times for the Tar Heels in 2023. Made his first career field goal against NC Central and appeared in three games in 2024.

QB Andres Miyares, Jr.: Miyares Jr. was a freshman on the roster in 2024.

P Jacob Horvath (coming from Eastern Illinois): A second-team All-Big South/OVC punter in 2024, Horvath is from Australia. He was the starting punter in 2023 and 2024. He averaged 44.3 yards per punt in 2024.

K Rece Verhoff (coming from Marshall): Verehoff made 14-of-19 field goal attempts for Marshall in 2024, including 8-of-11 from 40 yards or more. He made 38 of 57 field goal attempts in three seasons with the Thundering Herd.

WR Adrian Wilson (coming from Colorado): According to On3, Wilson committed to TCU, Oregon and Arizona State before picking Colorado in October. Now he is headed to UNC. He has four years of eligibility remaining.

QB Gio Lopez (coming from South Alabama): The Tar Heels may have landed their starting quarterback for 2025.

Bill Belichick

TE Julian Randolph: Randolph, a 6-foot-5 tight end who was ranked as the No. 7 player in Virginia in high school, missed the 2023 season due to injury and played in three games in 2024.

RB Benjamin Hall (coming from Michigan): Hall, who had a career-high 16 carries for 28 yards against Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl, has committed to UNC, On3 reported on April 21. Hall, listed at 5-foot-11 and 235 pounds, played two seasons with the Wolverines. He had 43 carries for 141 yards. The Tar Heels must replace star running back Omarion Hampton.

NC State

NC State, which has a new offensive and new defensive coordinator, closed all of its practices this spring and did not hold a spring game. The Wolfpack went 6-7 in 2024 under coach Dave Doeren.

WR Decari Collins: Collins played 24 games for NC State, catching 38 passes for 526 yards and four touchdowns over the last two seasons.

RB Kendrick Raphael: Raphael played 23 games for NC State, rushing 145 times for 734 yards and four touchdowns over the last two seasons.

DE Sabastian Harsh (Coming to NC State): Harsh comes from the Wyoming Cowboys. He played in eight games in 2024, grabbing 41 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and two sacks.

LB Kenny Soares (Coming to NC State): The Northwestern linebacker played in 12 games in 2024, racking up 20 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack. He’ll be a redshirt junior in the fall.

Dacari Collins nearly coming down with a touchdown

Duke

Duke will conclude its spring practice with a spring game on Saturday, April 19. The Blue Devils went 9-4 under first-year coach Manny Diaz in 2024.
