The South Central team showed their dominance, much like a well-established program accustomed to winning numerous N.C. High School Athletic Association girls golf championships.

However, the Falcons’ victory at Foxfire Golf Club on Tuesday marked their first championship win.

South Central’s total score of 491 strokes during the 3A championships over two days, which equated to 59-over par, was significantly higher than second-place Hibriten’s score of 523 strokes. This increased the margin between the two schools from just seven strokes on the first day.

The teams in second through fifth place were evenly matched.

Southern Alamance trailed Hibriten by three strokes, Fike, the consecutive state champion, was just one stroke behind Southern Alamance, and Lake Norman Charter was one stroke behind Fike.

South Brunswick also made history at the school.

Jillian Fatkin has become the first female golf state champion for the Cougars. She held off a tough competition and ended with a two-day score of 153 (9-over par). Three other golfers, Haley Paramore from South Central, Sanaa Carter from Jacksonville, and Trinity White from Hibriten, all finished with a score of 155, just two strokes behind and tied for third place.

Similarly, there were only five strokes between fifth place and 13th.

In the previous year, Carter placed second, Council placed third, and Fatkin came in fourth, indicating that all three have consistently ranked within the top five for two consecutive years. In 2021, Fatkin was third and Carter was the runner-up, making it the third consecutive year that they have both placed within the top four.
