The basketball doubleheader in Raleigh on Tuesday night ended with Shaw and St. Augustine’s each winning one game. The Falcons defeated the Bears 76-65 in the women’s game, while Shaw emerged victorious with a score of 64-54 in the men’s game.

In the beginning, Shaw was in the lead with a six-point advantage in the first quarter. However, a strong performance by the Falcons in the last ten minutes of the first half allowed them to take the lead for the remainder of the game. Five players scored at least ten points each, with junior guard Lauren Banks leading with 15 points and four steals. St. Aug’s capitalized on 27 turnovers and converted them into 32 points against the Bears. Junior Taniyah Greene also contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in their 76-65 victory.
Alex Radcliffe, a senior for the Bears, scored 21 points and had a shooting percentage of 7/9, leading the team.

The momentum shifted in the men’s game when St. Augustine’s went on a 9-0 run, but Shaw was able to catch up and take the lead just before halftime. Senior guard D.J. Thomas had an impressive performance with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. St. Augustine’s Jordan Love also had a strong game, scoring 19 points in 35 minutes. Shaw capitalized on St. Aug’s turnovers, scoring 17 points off of their 18 turnovers.
Shaw gained the advantage after Trent McIntyre made two free throws with 12:53 left in the game and maintained it until the end, ultimately winning 64-54.
Shaw will end the regular season with a pair of home games against Winston-Salem State on Thursday. The women’s team plays at 6 p.m. and the men’s team plays at 8 p.m.
St. Augustine’s program will welcome Fayetteville State for their last home games of the regular season this Saturday. The women’s team will begin at 12 p.m. and the men’s team will follow at 2 p.m.
