HighSchoolOT was informed by athletic director Joshua Pardue that Scott Wood, who has been the head football coach at Elkin High School for a long time, will be retiring on January 31.

The position will be advertised during the Thanksgiving holiday and will remain available for a duration of two weeks.

During his 14-year tenure as Elkin’s head coach, Wood led the Buckin’ Elks to a combined record of 63-96. Under Wood’s guidance, Elkin qualified for the state playoffs nine times.

Wood was a coach for the 2019 East-West All-Star Game.

The sports department also issued the following statement on its X profile:
