Rolesville state champion Joslyn Hamilton named Gatorade NC Player of the Year in girls track & field

Rolesville High School senior Joslyn Hamilton has been named the top girls track & field athlete in North Carolina.

Hamilton was selected as the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year in track & field on Tuesday morning.

Hamilton is a 5-foot-9 senior hurdler and sprinter for Rolesville. At the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state championship this spring, she set two personal records and won three state titles, leading the Rams to the team state title.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Hamilton set a new state meet record with a time of 41.10 seconds, which ranked her U.S. No. 6. She also won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.67 seconds and the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.57 seconds.

Hamilton also ran the first leg of the 4×100 meter relay team, which placed third in the state meet.

At the national level, Hamilton won the national championship in the 100 meter hurdles, posting her best time ever of 13.37 seconds, which is No. 5 in the nation among high school girls.

“As a hurdler primarily, Joslyn Hamilton was quite comfortable leaving her comfort zone at the state meet — that’s what champions do — and her points in the 100 dash reaped rewards for her team,” said Rich Gonzalez, editor for PrepCalTrack.com. “One of the nation’s premier barrier competitors, her 30 individual points keyed the Rams’ one-point team win over runner-up Cuthbertson for the state title.”

Her performance this season earned Hamilton a spot on the HighSchoolOT All-State Team.

When she’s not running track, Hamilton was worked as a volunteer for the No Child Hungry Meal Packaging initiative where she helps distribute meals to people in need. She has also helped organize Thanksgiving meals for families.

Hamilton holds a 3.73 grade point average and has signed with South Carolina to compete in track & field next year.
