NCCU is inviting Morgan State into the O’Kelly Riddick Stadium for homecoming.

Morgan State (3-4) has lost their last six meetings dating back to 2015. North Carolina Central (5-2, 1-0 MEAC) is coming off a very-needed bye week after several Eagles players missed time during their non-conference schedule. The team also received votes in the Stats Perform Top 25 (20th) and the AFCA poll tied for (21st).

Riding a four-game winning streak into the festive environment that will be homecoming, Coach Oliver instructed his group to reset after defeating Virginia Lynchburg 68-0 before having the week off.

NCCU Head Coach Trei Oliver said the team is balancing their schedule due to the week’s homecoming events.

“It is homecoming. It’s a lot of stuff going on, a lot of activities,” he said. “I think part of the college experience is enjoying that.”

Morgan State has struggled to find their starting quarterback, scoring only six passing touchdowns this season between four different pass throwers. Rushing-wise, the Bears have been running by committee with three different rushers over 200 on the year.

J’Mari Taylor has done a great job balancing the Eagle’s offense as the lead running back is second in the MEAC with 594 rushing yards. North Carolina Central’s offense has looked nothing short of prolific averaging a MEAC best 39 points a contest and scoring 100 more points than the second-closest team South Carolina State.

“I thought we were talented at the beginning of the season, but were very young. When you don’t have a lot of seniors on your team, my biggest concern was how these young guys were going to handle and manage success. I think we’ve grown up a lot,” Oliver said.

The Eagles have played 45 of their 56 underclassmen this season. This young team will look to add to their experience resume.

The conference game will kick off Saturday at 3:30 PM.
