Records fall at indoor track state championships: Full list of every tied, broken record
While athletes and teams won indoor track & field state championships this weekend, some managed to tie and break records.
The N.C. High School Athletic Association’s indoor track & field state championship was held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
All three boys champions claimed their first team titles in program history this weekend — Mallard Creek (4A), Dudley (3A), and Seaforth (1A/2A).
On the girls side, Cardinal Gibbons ended Cuthbertson’s run of consecutive indoor track state championships at seven, including the last three 4A titles. It was the second team title in program history for Cardinal Gibbons.
Dudley’s girls team managed to extend its streak to three straight 3A state championships, but another streak ended at the 1A/2A level where Cummings beat Swain County to stop the Maroon Devils’ run at three.
Some of the record-breaking performances came from athletes at these schools, but other schools were also represented.
A total of four state meet records fell this weekend, all in the boys competition. The 300 meter state meet record was beaten twice. 14 different records fell in various classifications.
