Last week, only one team in the HSOT Statewide Top 25 girls basketball rankings suffered a loss and was removed from the rankings this week. This team was New Hanover, ranked at No. 25, who was defeated by a significant amount by No. 17 Hoggard.

The current team filling in for New Hanover is O’Neal School, with a season record of 19-1. Their sole defeat was against a school from another state.

In another location, Greensboro Day was defeated by a school from outside the state and maintained its position at number 9. High Point Christian fell two places after losing to Greensboro Day.

There have been modifications made to HSOT’s Area Code Rankings, listed below the Top 25 in this article.

These are some key points about the methodology behind our girls’ basketball rankings:

  • The rankings are refreshed every week and made available on Monday.

  • All high schools in North Carolina, except for athletic training academies, qualify for the top 25 ranking in the state.

  • The state’s six area codes have a separate top 15 list that is updated weekly.

  • The rankings are put on hold during the playoffs for the N.C. High School Athletic Association.

  • The final rankings will be published the week following the state championships.
