Randleman picks David J. Diamont to take over Tiger football program
Randleman High School has found its next head football coach. The Tigers picked David J. Diamont, the offensive coordinator from Burns High School.
Multiple sources informed HighSchoolOT that he was officially hired by the Randolph County school on Friday afternoon.
Diamont is the son of David H. Diamont, a legendary coach who spent most of his 50-year career at East Surry High School. Over his time coaching at East Surry, Mount Airy, and South Stokes, the elder Diamont produced a career win-loss record of 310-175. He was also a member of the N.C. House of Representatives from 1974 to 1994. In 1989, he was the chair of the House Appropriations Committee.
Burns hired the younger Diamont in the summer of 2022. The Bulldogs have finished with records of 12-2, 8-4, and 8-4 since then. Burns averaged 42.3 points per game in 2022, 44.9 in 2023, and 36.8 in 2024 while installing a new quarterback.
Before he moved to be a coach at Burns, Diamont was on his dad’s staff at South Stokes, whcih was the final coaching stop in his storied career. The son was the defensive coordinator of the Sauras in the spring 2021 season and the offensive coordinator for the fall 2021 season.
The Tigers have appeared in three N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A state championship games and won all three in a blowout. It happened over three consecutive seasons from 1981-83. Randleman also made the 2AA East regional final in 2019. That year, the Tigers lost to Salisbury in a 14-7 game.
Diamont is replacing Shane Timmons, who led the Randleman program since the spring 2021 season. Timmons’ Tigers teams produced a combined record of 37-17 and made the playoffs in all five of his seasons.
With an average daily membership of 868 students this school year, Randleman is set to become a 4A program once the NCHSAA realigns into eight classifications later this year. In the second draft of new potential conferences released by the NCHSAA, Randleman was placed in a 4A/5A league with fellow 4As Central Davidson, Ledford, Lexington, and T.W. Andrews as well as 5As High Point Central and Montgomery Central. This conference proposal is still subject to change following the next period of appeals.
