Pinecrest takes No. 1 in final boys golf rankings for the 2024 season

Pinecrest ends the year on top for the first time in the four-year history of the HighSchoolOT boys golf rankings. The Patriots were N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state champions, shooting an incredible 14-under par as a team over two days of championship competition, setting a new NCHSAA record.

HSOT uses handicap differential based on championship performance to determine the rankings.

In total, 17 teams in the preseason top 25 also made it in the final 25, with No. 3 New Hanover the highest of those who began the year unranked. Pinecrest was also No. 1 in the preseason. Seven teams from the preseason top 10 also finished in the final top 10.

Terry Sanford, last year’s No. 1 team, was second this year as it won the NCHSAA 3A title again. Seaforth, the 2A champ, was 12th after winning a playoff with No. 13 Pine Lake Prep. Due to handicap differential, 1A champ Mitchell was unranked.

All three N.C. Independent School champions — O’Neal School (Division III champ, 10th), Cary Christian (Division II champ, 16th), and Charlotte Latin (Division I champ, 17th) — were also ranked.
