Panthers Playbook: Carolina Panthers extend Chuba Hubbard :: WRALSportsFan.com

The Carolina Panthers signed running back Chuba Hubbard to a four-year extension. Dennis Cox breaks it down.

Emergency Panthers playbook here, Dennis Cox Ride and solo with you on this Thursday morning on the news that Tuba Hubbard signs an extension with the Carolina Panthers, by the way, Panthers playbook presented by our friends over at Carolina Ford Dealers for Ford F 150 on your team here. See your Carolina Ford dealer today, Tuba Hubbard contract extension four years, $33.2 million.15 million of that guaranteed. And that’s really the key number right there is the $15 million guaranteed. Now, the average annual value of the deal is about $8.3 million but again, 15 million guaranteed, basically says that two years of this contract is guaranteed. So it looks like the Carolina Panthers, my guess is gonna have a out after the next couple of seasons, which I actually like this deal. First of all, Chuba Hubbard has been productive. He’s been one of the best productive, our most productive running backs in the NFL this season in terms of yards per carry rushing success rate. He has had a really good productive year and obviously he fits well into Dave Canal’s offense. Now, do you want him to get the ball more. Sure. But that’s a different conversation going forward. Now. A lot of people probably thinking, well, why are you extending Tuba Hubbard when you just drafted Jonathan Brooks a couple of things? One, you still don’t know what you have in Jonathan Brooks. He has not stepped on the field yet. He might play this Sunday against the New York Giants. But second of all, we are seeing teams even with first round running backs go with two running back systems. For example, you look at Jamir Gibbs, a first round running back drafted last year by the Detroit Lions. They pair him with David Montgomery. It’s a great 12 punch. You look at Naji Harris in Pittsburgh, a former first round pick as well. He’s in his fourth year, but the last couple of years, Jalen Warren has been the complimentary back and used a lot in the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, whether it’s with Arthur Smith last year or in previous seasons with Matt Canada as the offensive coordinator even go down to Atlanta. Bichon Robinson was a top 10 pick. They still use him as a, a 12 combination with Tyler Algier. We have seen NFL teams even with highly drafted running backs going to two running back systems. Those three guys that mentioned Naji Harish Jamir Gibbs, Bijon Robinson are still on, their rookie contracts are still on their rookie deals and they are used to running back systems if Dave Canalis who wants to be about that running the, that run game life. Well, guess what? If you have two guys that can do it, then you have no choice but to really be about that life. If you’re going to be about the run game, Dave Canals because guess what, as the game progresses on Jonathan Brooks, as we know, has some really good speed, at least where he showed at Texas. We’ll see how his body is now after recovering from the AC L injury, but the speed and the game breaking the big play ability. But imagine if you have a lead in the fourth quarter and you have a Tuba Hubbard who is now grinding down teams late in the fourth quarter because he has fresh legs. That’s a recipe for success in the future going forward with this team. I love the addition or I love the extension of Tuba Hubbard. I also love the message that it sends to this team and this is probably the most important thing, players that fit your locker room that fit your playing style, that had the mentality that you want, you keep them. And that’s probably the most important thing is that you are rewarding a player for being exactly what you want in terms of what you’ve said. You what you set out, Dan Morgan, Dave Canalis, the dog mentality productive good in the locker room. That’s exactly what you be Hubbard is and you have rewarded him for that. You are keeping your good players. This is something the Panthers haven’t been doing much over the last few years. They’re actually keeping one of their productive players, keeping their good talent inside the building. All right, they, they trimmed the fat with Deon Johnson. They decided to let Jonathan Mingo go because guess what, not productive. And o another multitude of reasons, but they said, hey, Cuba Hubbard, that’s the kind of guy that we want on our team. That’s the guy that we need to have on our team. And that’s the person that we can help build around or one of the building blocks on the team for the foreseeable future. That to me is the biggest reason why you keep Cuba Hubbard around his production, but also he fits exactly what you have described as a franchise. This is the reason why I love this sighting.
