By all accounts, the Carolina Panthers looked better against the Jets in a joint practice on Thursday than they did last year when the teams met at Wofford.

Bryce Young was described as “sharp,” and the defense was opportunistic, creating turnovers from Jetts QB Aaron Rodgers.

But there was a little bit of a camp scuffle.

The Panthers don’t allow the media to film practice, but video of the incident leaked. A fan shot it with a cell phone from the stands.

Panthers wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. reportedly caught a pass over a Jets defender while being held, and then flipped the ball onto the player which started a little dustup.

No one was hurt, but in a game a play like that can cost the Panthers in the form of a penalty. That was head coach Dave Canales‘ teachable moment to his team.

“It’s dumb football. We can’t have that,” he said. “This is the exact type of stuff that I’ve been hitting them on.”

Marshall replied, “I definitely wouldn’t do that in a game. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt the team.”

The Panthers will be at Bank of America Stadium for their next preseason game against the New York Jets at 7 p.m. on Saturday. You can watch it on WRAL-TV.
