The Carolina Panthers waived wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., their second-round pick in 2021 as they cut their roster to the NFL’s 53-man limit.

Marshall, out of LSU, caught 64 passes for 767 yards and one touchdown in three seasons with Carolina. He played in 36 games. He was the No. 59 overall pick in 2021.

The team also placed running back Jonathan Brooks, its 2024 second-round selection, on the reserve/non-football injury list meaning that he’ll miss at least the first four games of the regular season.

Carolina opens it season on Sept. 8 at New Orleans.

Among the team’s other cuts were quarterback Jack Plummer, wide receiver Mike Strachan, outside linebacker Luiji Vilain and tight ends Jordan Matthews and Jacob Hollister.

The Panthers, who had the league’s worst record in 2023, have the top spot for making waiver claims. The team could be active as NFL franchises work to cut down their rosters.

The Panthers kept seven wide receivers on their initial 53-man roster, which is likely to change before the season opener. Adam Thielen, Diontae Johnson, Jonathan Mingo, Xavier Legette, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, David Moore and Jalen Coker made the initial cutdown.

Some notable cuts from around the league, according to The Associated Press: Safety Ronnie Harrison (Colts), linebacker Deion Jones (Bills), running backs Matt Breida (49ers), Joshua Kelley (Giants) and Boston Scott (Rams), quarterbacks Ben DiNucci (Bills), Matt Corral (Vikings) and Ian Book (Chiefs), wide receivers Sterling Shepard (Buccaneers) and Greg Ward (Colts) and defensive back Terrell Edmunds (Jaguars) also were cut.
