Panthers address pass rush in 2nd and 3rd rounds with Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen :: WRALSportsFan.com

Most draft analysts expected the Carolina Panthers to go with a pass rusher with the 8th overall pick. Tetairoa McMillan, the 6’4 receiver out of Arizona was a surprise, but a valuable weapon for Bryce Young. Carolina made sure to address their defensive needs in rounds 2 and 3.
With the 51st pick the Panthers selected Nic Scourton, EDGE rusher out of Texas A&M. In college Scourton played his first two years at Purdue, totaling 72 tackles and 12 sacks. A Texas native, Scourton transferred to the Aggies last season and produced 37 tackles, 14 for loss (leading the team), five sacks, two pass break-ups, and a forced fumble.
In the 3rd round the Panthers again went EDGE with the 77th pick selecting Princely Umanmielen out of Ole Miss. Umanmielen was a Florida Gators transfer, Last season with the Rebels he had 37 tackles and 10.5 sacks.
Pass rush was a glaring need for Carolina who finished tied with the 3rd fewest sacks in the league last season (32).
