The Carolina Panthers have acquired cornerback Michael Jackson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, the teams announced Thursday.

The Seahawks are due to receive rookie linebacker Michael Barrett.

Jackson, 27, was originally a fifth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys. He has also spent time with the Detroit Lions and New England Patriots.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder has started 21 career games and has an interception and two fumble recoveries.

Barrett was the team’s seventh-round pick this year out of Michigan. Seahawks special teams coach Jay Harbaugh was at Michigan last year, so he’s familiar with Barrett’s work.

Panthers cornerback Dane Jackson is expected to miss the regular season opener on Sept. 8 against the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers also lost cornerback Lamar Jackson to a knee injury.

In the offseason, the Panthers also traded cornerback Donte Jackson to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a deal for wide receiver Diontae Johnson.
