Overhills goalkeeper Daniel Sykes breaks career saves record

ANDERSON CREEK, N.C. — Daniel Sykes was nothing if not busy for most of his Overhills soccer career.

He graduates as an apparent N.C. High School Athletic Association record holder.

The Jaguars recorded Sykes as having made 1,125 saves in his four-year career (15.8 per game), which would shatter the only listing in the N.C. record book for saves in a career — 925 by Randleman’s Adam Kearns (from 2001-04).

The listing for most saves in a single-season is 385 by Conner Fox of Alexander Central in 2012. Sykes had a career-high of 337 as a junior in 2023.

His career goals against average is 2.562. Sykes also recorded 13 PK stops in his career, including five this season.

He was a HighSchoolOT Honorable Mention all-state selection this past season, posting a 2.996 goals against average with three shutouts and 14.7 saves per game.
