The top-ranked North Carolina will face off against fourth-seeded Pittsburgh in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament on Friday evening. The game could potentially determine a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
The competition starts at 7 p.m. ET on Friday and will be televised on ESPN. The event will take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
North Carolina has won seven consecutive games, with a record of 26-6 (18-3 in ACC games), leading up to Friday night.
The Tar Heels are competing for a top spot in the NCAA Tournament. It seems likely that Houston (28-3), UConn (28-3), and Purdue (28-3) will secure three of the top seeds.
UNC is vying against Tennessee (24-7), Arizona (24-7) and Iowa State (24-7) for the remaining top seed. On Friday, Tennessee was defeated in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, increasing the likelihood of the Tar Heels securing the No. 1 seed.
The state of North Carolina is aiming to triumph in the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2016, when the tournament was last hosted in Washington, D.C.
Thursday’s game between the Tar Heels and the Florida State Seminoles ended in a dominant victory for the Tar Heels with a final score of 92-67. Armando Bacot, the center for the Tar Heels, contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds for the team’s success.
On Thursday, Pitt (22-10, 12-8 ACC) defeated No. 4 seed Wake Forest with a score of 81-69. The team is currently on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. While UNC won their only matchup this season, Pittsburgh has historically had a stronger record with five out of the last seven wins against them.
In the second semifinal, Virginia (seeded third) and NC State (seeded tenth) will face off.
