Olivia Olarte’s hat trick carries Franklin Academy past Cary Academy
Franklin Academy’s girls soccer team picked up a non-conference win over Cary Academy on Monday afternoon, thanks to a big first half from Olivia Olarte.
The junior forward scored three goals in the first half as the Patriots won their 10th game of the season with a 4-2 victory over Cary Academy.
Kayla Rice had the first goal of the game for the Patriots. In the third minute, the Cary Academy keeper came out to challenge Rice, who managed to get behind the Chargers’ defense. Rice kicked the ball into the right corner of the net to put Franklin Academy up 1-0 early in the game.
Just three minutes later, Libby Burrows connected with Olarte, who out ran the defense and scored. The Patriots led 2-0 after Olarte’s first goal. Olarte scored again in the 11th minute to put Franklin Academy up 3-0.
The Chargers managed two quick goals after that. Callie McCarron scored in the 22nd minute, then Meredith Fultz put the ball in the net in the 23rd minute.
But Franklin Academy shut the door before halftime. Olarte scored her third goal in the 27th minute and Franklin Academy took a 4-2 lead into halftime. That score stood through the second half as the Patriots picked up the win.
Franklin Academy is now 10-1 overall this season, while Cary Academy is now 1-6. The Patriots return to conference play on Wednesday with a home game against Falls Lake Academy at 5 p.m. Franklin Academy is 1-0 in the Super Six 1A/2A Conference.
Cary Academy is back in action on Tuesday with a road game at North Raleigh Christian Academy at 6 p.m. The game will mark the third game of the season for the Chargers in the Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference where the team is 0-2.
