Northside baseball joins softball program in 1A state championship

There’s a party in Beaufort County, and it’s an all-Northside affair.

A day after the Panthers softball team punched its ticket to the 1A state championship series, the baseball team did the same.

Rallying back from a 1-0 series deficit against East Wake Academy, the Panthers escaped Zebulon with a 7-4 win on Thursday before taking home the regional title 4-1 in Pinetown on Friday.

Hunter Crismon, Griffin Johnson, and Trenton Allen broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth to back a strong outing on the hill from senior Brandon Arthur.

Arthur was the one to slam the door in game two with a pair of scoreless frames.

The win sends the program to the baseball state championship for the first time since 1994. An opponent is yet to be determined. Mount Airy will host Uwharrie Charter on Saturday in game three of the 1A west finals.

On the softball field, Northside escaped Roxboro Community 9-7 in game one of the series before leaving no doubt in a 15-5 clinching victory.

Emaleigh Cherry and Jorden Clark combined to go 5-for-8 with 8 RBI in Thursday’s win at home. Cherry teamed up with Isabella Boykin to go 4-for-7 with 5 driven in on Tuesday night. The Panthers will face East Wilkes who swept away Robbinsville following a win on Friday night.
