MOUNT PLEASANT, N.C. — Bad news may come in threes, but good things come in twos — at least if you’re North Stanly softball.

The second-seeded Comets won the Yadkin Valley Conference tournament with a 6-3 win over rival South Stanly in the tournament final hosted by Mount Pleasant.

North Stanly (16-6) scored two runs in the bottom of the first, fourth, and sixth innings to end the Cinderella run of South Stanly (12-13), which upset regular season champ Union Academy in the conference semifinals to hand the Cardinals their first loss of the year. The Comets, last year’s 2A West runner-up, and 1A power South Stanly will await their playoff date next week.
