Charlotte, N.C. — The ACC men’s basketball tournament will be a North Carolina event for the next five seasons. And teams from across the soon-to-be 18-team league will be earning tournament and championship titles in a variety of sports in North Carolina for the rest of the decade.

The ACC men’s basketball tournament, which is considered its main event, will be held in Charlotte and Greensboro from 2025 to 2029. Charlotte, where the ACC’s main office is located, will host the tournament in 2025, 2026, and 2028 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the ACC.

The upcoming ACC tournament will take place in Washington, D.C. next month.

The women’s basketball tournament for the conference will take place in Greensboro in 2025 and in Charlotte in 2027.

Furthermore, the league revealed that cities in North Carolina will serve as hosts for various championship events including baseball, women’s golf, gymnastics, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, rowing, and men’s and women’s tennis.

The statement meets the majority of the conditions set by North Carolina legislators in 2022, in return for a $15 million incentive package to retain the league’s headquarters in the state. In 2023, the ACC relocated from its original location in Greensboro to Charlotte.

Some of the requirements included holding four men’s basketball tournaments and four women’s basketball tournaments in North Carolina before 2034, with two of the men’s tournaments taking place in Greensboro. The state budget also stated that there should be four additional baseball postseason events and 20 non-basketball or baseball postseason tournaments in North Carolina.

The headquarters of the ACC is required to remain in the state for a duration of 15 years.

The recent announcement by the ACC indicates that they have fulfilled all requirements, except for women’s basketball. The conference has granted three tournaments to the state after the incentive was approved.

In a statement, Commissioner Jim Phillips expressed our satisfaction in fulfilling our promise to host multiple tournaments and championships in various cities throughout North Carolina. This decision was made by the ACC Board of Directors when they relocated the conference office headquarters to Charlotte.

In 2018, the ACC declared that the football championship game will take place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte until 2030.

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) will include Stanford, Cal, and SMU in its league starting this autumn, bringing the total number of members to 18 in most sports.
