No Harrison, no problem as No. 1 Reidsville rocks T.W. Andrews boys basketball

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — There were a few moments during Reidsville’s home opener on Tuesday night where Kendre Harrison was missed, like a batted-around rebound that he would’ve corralled above everyone else, or a backdoor lob that was too high for someone else but he could’ve thrown down.

But by the end of the game, looking at just the scoreboard, No. 1 Reidsville didn’t look too off their usual performance in a 95-75 win over Mid-State Conference foe T.W. Andrews.

Behind 31 points from Dionte Neal and 29 from Johnniyus Sharpe — a junior and senior who each have two all-state appearances themselves — Reidsville led 53-29 at halftime.

It was just the second game for the Rams (2-0), the defending 2A state champs, but they didn’t have their two-time all-state junior as he rested a bruised knee.

“If we were playing for the state championship tonight, he would’ve played,” said coach Jason Ross.

Ross noted that the team does have some experience playing without Harrison — they did most of the summer and were planning to start this basketball season without him as well before he transferred back from Providence Day in Charlotte after a month. Harrison recently committed to Oregon for football and basketball.

Kristian Scales, standing 6-foot-8 himself, provided a boost to the Rams with 17 points as they rarely let the lead dip under 20 points in the second half despite hot shooting from a few Red Raiders.

T.W. Andrews (1-3) has lost to three undefeated teams thus far. Jaelin Smith had 23 (four 3s), Malik Troutman had 17, and Brandon Sturdivant had 16.
