No. 6 Reagan volleyball opens league play with sweep of East Forsyth

The names change, but the dominant play stays the same. Few volleyball teams in the state of North Carolina consistently master conference play like Reagan.

The Raiders cruised past East Forsyth on Tuesday night to begin Central Piedmont Conference action.

Mikayla Nicks, and Elly Randolph led the way to a 25-16 first set win. Brynna Boyer helped Reagan secure the victory with a pair of highlight-reel digs leading to set point.

The early play of Randolph and fellow sophomore Klaire Weiss has helped coach Doug Balser’s team maintain its high level of play after qualifying for the 4A western regional final in 2023. Weiss is quickly approaching 200 assists while Randolph is already averaging over 3.5 kills per set, one of the top marks in NC.

Reagan’s front row owned the second.

Randolph, Gabby Nichols, Carly Edwards, and Anna Edwards all pitched in with big plays around the net to claim the second set 25-12.

Nichols, a Penn State recruit and the reigning HighSchoolOT Honors Defensive Player of the Year, had a run where she recorded two blocks and two kills in the span of five points to spark the Raiders.

Everyone had a chance to see the floor in the third as Reagan flexed its depth and closed out the match with another 25-12 win.

Tuesday’s victory comes on the heels of a 3-1 showing this past weekend at the North Myrtle Beach “Border Battle”.

Overall, the Raiders are 11-2 and continue league play on Thursday on the road at Glenn.

East Forsyth drops to 1-5 overall following the defeat. The Eagles are at home on Thursday against Davie.
