No. 4 East Chapel Hill earns bounce-back win over No. 21 Myers Park

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the wake of its first loss this season, No. 4 ranked East Chapel Hill girls lacrosse bounced right back.

A dozen goals from Anna Ellis and Hannah Johnson fueled an 19-12 win over No. 21 Myers Park.

Less than 90 seconds into the contest, the senior duo had already found the back of the net three times.

Thanks to the early 3-0 advantage, the Wildcats never trailed.

Millie Johnston answered an Anna Ellis goal with the Mustangs’ first of the day to cut the deficit to 4-1.

Consecutive goals from Avery Ellis helped East Chapel Hill build up what would be its largest lead of the day at 7-1.

Luca D’Amico and Rebecca Campbell ended the first with back-to-back goals to slash the Wildcat lead to 7-3 after one.

The two sides went back and forth in the second.

Johnston started things for Myers Park, and Avery Ellis responded to snap the 3-0 run. Alison Zaranek’s first of the game was answered by D’Amico, but Sophie Fowler ripped back momentum with a goal to push East ahead 10-5.

Anna and Avery Ellis traded tallies with Sarah Tricarico and Ellery Hyche. At the half, the Wildcats led 12-7.

Harper Ayres helped Myers Park make things interesting in the third. She started the second half with two straight to cut East Chapel Hill’s lead to three.

The Wildcats were held to only one goal in the period, a Fowler goal on a beautiful pass from Anna Ellis to lead 13-9 after 36 minutes.

In the fourth, Johnson netted four goals to put the East Chapel Hill win on ice. Following her second of the period, Anna Ellis scored off of the ensuing draw for her 200th career goal. She added one more in the final seconds to finish with seven goals.

East Chapel Hill is now 10-1 overall. Next Thursday, the Wildcats travel to Northwood.

Myers Park fell to 9-8 overall. A challenging non-conference schedule has seen the Mustangs drop 7 of their last 10. They have a chance for a quick turnaround on Saturday with a morning contest against Wakefield.
