No. 3 Grimsley blows out Northwest Guilford, inches closer to top seed in the 4A West

Greensboro’s Grimsley High School blew out conference foe Northwest Guilford by a score of 47-7 on Thursday night. The game was moved up to Thursday in anticipation of the effects caused by Hurricane Helene.

Tonight’s action took place during some heavy rain that was courtesy of the outer bands. The field lost traction over the course of the night, causing some players to slip before being able to make a play.

The win puts Grimsley in the driver’s seat to win the Metro 4A Conference once again. Should Grimsley take care of the teams in the Metro 4A that are not as talented as the Vikings, they have a very good shot at becoming the No. 1 overall seed in the 4A West.

Entering week six, the Whirlies boasted an RPI of .86146. The rating is significantly stronger than any other team in the 4A West. Northwest Guilford came in with the No. 2 RPI in the West at .77417. The next closest team was East Forysth at .73479. Grimsley’s abnormally high RPI should rise even higher after tonight’s win.

Star senior running back Mitchell Summers rushed for three touchdowns for Grimsley.

Rob Lange was the top player for Northwest Guilford. Lange made multiple sacks on 5-star junior Tennessee quarterback commit Faizon Brandon. For a period between the end of the second quarter and most of the third quarter, the Northwest Guilford defense, led by its pass rush, forced Grimsley into multiple punts and a turnover on downs.

Grimsley had big interceptions made by junior Kosci Barnes and senior Jasiah Hussey. Duke commit Bryce Davis at defensive end and senior defensive tackle Andre Hill led a defensive front that didn’t let Northern Guilford establish the run in the rain, aside from one breakaway touchdown play.

With tonight’s victory, Grimsley has won 32-straight conference games, which dates back to 2018.

Grimsley (5-0 overall, 2-0 Metro 4A Conference) will travel to Western Guilford next Friday. Northwest Guilford (4-1 overall, 1-1 Metro 4A Conference) is going to try to rebound at home against Page in week seven.
