No. 21 Southern Nash continues unbeaten season with blowout win
FRANKLINTON, N.C. – It was fitting that an offensive outburst highlighted Southern Nash’s regular season finale.
The Ladybirds’ 13th game with double-digit runs scored put the finishing touches on a 19-0 slate.
In four innings, Southern Nash pounded out 19 hits and the team’s four-through-nine hitters drove in 16 to pick up an 18-2 win at Franklinton.
A first-inning passed ball broke the ice, and a two-out rally gave the Ladybirds a 2-0 lead after one.
Eight runs in the second broke the game wide open.
Kaylie Love and Anna Dickinson singled with one out. Noel Dobbins walked to load the bases, and Carlee Beckham followed with a two-run double to left.
Savanna Baines kept the line moving with an RBI single, and Kelsey Jones followed a Sarah Ewers single with a two-run double of her own.
Leading 7-0, Aliyah Croll doubled in a run and Makayla Weeks scored two on a single to inflate the score to double figures.
With one out in the third, Baines drove home Dobbins, then scored on a Jones ground out. Croll and Weeks finished the frame with consecutive run-scoring doubles to grab a 14-0 advantage.
Franklinton plated two in the bottom half of the third to get on the board against Ewers. Kaylei Main scored Makenzie Williams with a two-out single and scored a batter later on a wild pitch.
Ewers went three innings in the circle with one hit allowed, five walks, and seven strikeouts. Paisley Baker worked a scoreless fourth to close things out.
Southern Nash’s final damage came in the top of the fourth when Beckham doubled to score Dickinson. Baines finished off a 3-3 day with a two-run single, and Ewers came through with the Ladybirds’ ninth double of the game to jump ahead 18-2.
