No. 17 Wakefield girls take control of the NAC with second win over No. 11 Rolesville

On Friday night, Wakefield High School’s girls basketball team defeated Rolesville for the second time in three days.

Wakefield defeated the Rams 60-50 on Wednesday and the Wolverines beat Rolesville 50-43 two days later.

The Wolverines’ back-to-back victories over over the defending N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state champions have placed them in the driver’s seat of the Northern Athletic Conference.

Coach Jason Lee’s team is now 6-0 in conference play with four games left on the schedule. Rolesville is commonly viewed as the top threat to the Wolverines in the NAC.

After an early 9-4 lead for Rolesville, Wakefield took control of the pace and the scoreboard. Wakefield outscored Rolesville 20-6 in the second quarter. The Wolverines were able to keep the Rams at an arm’s length distance of about 10 points from the second quarter and on.

In the game’s final stretch, the Wolverines were able to successfully complete long possessions that both drained the clock and ended in an easy make to keep the advantage on the scoreboard.
