No. 15 Wake Forest takes down Wakefield to win eleventh straight
A season ago, Wake Forest parlayed a 16-game regular season winning streak into an appearance in the 4A championship series. After another early .500 start, the Cougars have once again kicked things into overdrive as they build up momentum for May.
Two three-run innings helped Wake Forest complete a series sweep of Wakefield. The 6-3 victory pushes the Cougars’ winning streak to 11 straight games.
Ethan Brittain broke the ice with an RBI single to right in the bottom of the third. With two down in the inning, freshman Kellen Rogers pushed the lead to 3-0 when he reached on an error that scored two.
Wakefield answered right back with two runs on a Wake Forest throwing error, but the one-run deficit was short-lived.
Wake Forest manufactured three more runs in fourth to put the game away. With the bases loaded, Carlos Diaz punched an RBI single through left side to bring home a run.
Ian Williams would later score on a Stephen Crater sacrifice fly, and Kyle Brazeau would cross on an error.
The Wolverines managed to get as close as three after Holden Cooper doubled and scored in the sixth.
Carson Crider threw six innings and picked up the win for Wake Forest. He allowed six hits and struck out three while issuing one walk. Simon Leach nailed down the save in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts.
Wake Forest starts a its conference series with Heritage next week. The Cougars have six games remaining in the regular season and are currently 13-2 overall and 4-0 in league play.
Wakefield plays Millbrook twice next week along with a non-conference matchup against Holly Springs.
