No. 1 West Forsyth nets second half free kick to survive No. 16 Reagan

The target associated with being the state’s top-ranked soccer team is large.

Add a packed crowd on the road and conference implications against a fellow Top-25 ranked team, and you have the playoff atmosphere West Forsyth endured on Wednesday night.

Abiel Lopez-Dominguez’s 58th minute free kick helped the Titans leave No. 16 Reagan with a gritty 1-0 victory.

Haegan Paschold drew the foul that set the stage for Lopez-Dominguez’s 13th tally of the season. The senior crushed the free kick from about 25 yards out upper right to break the ice.

From there, the Titan defense took over, limiting Reagan’s opportunities for a shot on frame against Riley Powell.

Powell biggest stop came in the final moments of the first half. Wednesday was West Forsyth’s fifth clean sheet in 11 matches.

A quick turnaround sits ahead of the Titans who travel to Glenn on Thursday evening to continue CPC play.

Reagan, who drops to 8-3-1, remains at home next week when it hosts Parkland.
