New-look Forsyth Country Day cruises in showcase game with Wayne Country Day

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Aside from point guard Q Williams, this year’s Forsyth Country Day team has new faces across the board.

But the new faces are still playing the right way.

The Furies snapped a two-game skid with a 63-48 victory over Wayne Country Day on Wednesday afternoon at The Classic, hosted by Glenn High School.

Forsyth Country Day (6-2) led 33-23 at halftime thanks to a finishing kick to pull ahead of Wayne Country Day (5-3) for good. A 3-pointer by sophomore guard J.R. Adams beat the buzzer.

Forsyth Country Day, last year’s N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3A champ, has moved up to 4A this year. Most of last year’s starting lineup were seniors, with Williams the notable exception.

He had a team-high 17 points for the Furies. Sacha Geremski added 12 and Adam Horobey had 11.

The Chargers were led by Marcel Freeman’s 18 points. Jeremiah Mercer knocked down second-half 3s to finish with 10.

Neither team is ranked in this week’s statewide top 25 but both are ranked in their respective area codes — Forsyth Country Day is 10th in the 336, Wayne Country Day is sixth in the 919.
