New Hanover football coach Dylan Dimock resigns
Dylan Dimock has resigned as the head football coach at New Hanover High School. He told HighSchoolOT about his resignation from the Wilmington-based high school today.
After a month of the offseason, Dimock determined that he didn’t have the same juice to coach as he had before. He wanted to do right by the kids at New Hanover by stepping aside so the school could find a fresh coach. He informed principal Philip Sutton today. While he is set to remove his football duties, Dimock hopes to stay on in his day role as a social studies teacher.
Dimock was hired at Ne Hanover in the 2019 offseason. He was the head coach for six seasons.
Before his time at New Hanover, Dimock was the offensive coordinator at Hoggard High School for a decade. Prior to his coordinator role with the Vikings, Dimock opened up Ashley High as the head coach in 2001 and stayed in that role through 2008. Ashley generally struggled getting started as most new schools do, but Dimock had the Eagles in the playoffs four times.
Dimock’s first season at New Hanover resulted in a 13-2 overall record and a fourth round N.C. High School Athletic Association 3AA East playoff appearance.
His final season ended with a 6-5 overall record (4-3 Mideastern 3A/4A Conference) and a first round appearance in the 4A East playoffs. Dimock’s six seasons leading New Hanover cumulated in an overall mark of 42-23.
Overall, between his time at Ashley and New Hanover, Dimock is 71-87 as a head coach.
New Hanover is expected to be one of the top available jobs in North Carolina this cycle. Not only is the job near the beach, but the Wildcats’ program has four state championship titles in its history. The most recent state championship was the 3AA title over A.C. Reynolds in 2017.
