NCHSAA sets ADM numbers, giving early glimpse at upcoming realignment with 8 classifications

The N.C. High School Athletic Association has its first look at the Average Daily Membership numbers for the 2024-2025 school year, the enrollment figures it will use to determine the upcoming realignment.

HighSchoolOT has obtained a copy of the ADM numbers. The document says the ADM numbers are final, however they have not been publicly released by the NCHSAA and there is a chance some changes could be made. Schools had a chance to review the draft ADM numbers this week, and changes were made for some schools before the final ADM document was published.

ADMs are the student populations from the first 20 days of the academic year, which is not quite the same as enrollment because it averages the number of students present rather than simply enrolled. The N.C. Department of Public Instruction provides the ADM numbers to the NCHSAA, then the NCHSAA adjusts the numbers to account for special circumstances at individual schools, such as early colleges.

These are the numbers that will be used for the NCHSAA’s upcoming historic realignment into eight classifications. In 2025-29, the top 32 schools will be in 8A, while 1A through 7A will receive an even split of the rest.

The upcoming alignment will be based solely on ADM numbers, unlike the current alignment. The 2021-25 alignment used ADM numbers, but also factored in each school’s Wells Fargo Cup points (which measured postseason success across all sports) and the ISP numbers, which indicates the amount of government assistance a school population receives (because socioeconomic factors have strong correlation to overall athletic success).

Below, we’ve listed every NCHSAA member school from largest to smallest — from Myers Park to Nantahala. Ties are sorted alphabetically. Further, we’ve divided the numbers into the expected new classifications.
