NC State remains at No. 24 in AP poll :: WRALSportsFan.com
NC State kept its No. 24 ranking in the AP Top 25 college football poll entering Week 2.
The Wolfpack’s stagnancy can be linked to a sluggish start in the season opener. State wasn’t overly impressive, but got a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Western Carolina 38-21 on Thursday night.
State was ranked 24th to open the season.
State outscored Western 21-0 in the last 15 minutes after trailing 21-17 entering the final quarter. The Wolfpack fell behind 14-7 and 7-0 in the first quarter. KC Concepcion was named ACC Receiver of the Week with a career-high nine catches for 121 yards and three touchdowns.
A win against No. 14 Tennessee in the Duke’s Mayo Classic Saturday would likely propel State forward multiple spots. State was ranked as high as 10th in 2022 after a 4-0 start.
Around the ACC, Miami jumped seven spots to 12 after an impressive 41-17 trouncing of Florida on Saturday. The back end of the poll is ACC heavy with Louisville (22), Georgia Tech (23), State and Clemson (25). The Tigers dropped 11 spots after a rough showing against Georgia in Atlanta. Florida State, previously ranked 10th, dropped out of the poll entirely with Monday night’s loss to Boston College to fall to 0-2.
UNC got four votes in the poll after beating Minnesota 19-17.
