NC State opens 2025 football season with six straight games in state :: WRALSportsFan.com

NC State should be very familiar with its surroundings early in the 2025 football season.

NC State’s first six games are in North Carolina, including four at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. The Wolfpack also play at Wake Forest and at Duke in the first half of the season.

NC State’s first out-of-state game is Oct. 11 at Notre Dame, the first of just three games away from North Carolina. The Wolfpack visit Pitt (Oct. 25) and Miami (Nov. 15).

The ACC released its 2025 complete football schedule Monday night. NC State — and all teams — already knew who they were playing. But now the Wolfpack knows when.

The Wolfpack don’t play any of the ACC’s 2024 additions in Cal, Stanford or SMU.

Also missing from the schedule is Clemson. The schools have played every season since 1956, except for the 2020 COVID season. But the expanded ACC got rid of divisions in 2024, and the schools were not among the league’s protected rivalries.

The Wolfpack will end the regular season with two games at home — vs. Florida State and against rival North Carolina. NC State is seeking a record-tying fifth consecutive win over the Tar Heels. NC State beat UNC five straight times from 2007 to 2011 and from 1988 to 1992.

NC State opens the season against East Carolina at home on Thursday, Aug. 28. The Pirates defeated NC State in the Military Bowl to end the 2024 season, a game marred by a fight at the end. Head coach Dave Doeren, the school’s all-time winningest coach entering his 13th season, is 3-3 against East Carolina.

Doeren revamped his coaching staff after last year’s disappoinitng 6-7 season. The Wolfpack will enter the season with new coordinators on offense and defense.

Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson left to become Marshall’s head coach. Offensive coordinator Robert Anae was fired after two seasons.

D.J. Eliot, a senior analyst at Baylor last season, is the new defensive coordinator. Charlton Warren, who coached at UNC for the last three seasons, is co-defensive coordinator. Kurt Roper, who has been on staff since 2019 and coached quarterbacks the last two seasons, takes over as the offensive coordinator.

The Wolfpack also added alum Gavin Locklear as tight ends coach and Elisha Shaw as a defensive line assistant.
