NC State football one of four ACC teams ranked in initial coaches’ poll :: WRALSportsFan.com

The ACC has four football teams in the top 22 of the initial USA Today Coaches Poll released Monday morning.

NC State, coming off a 9-4 season and entering 2024 with high expectations, is ranked No. 22.

ACC champion Florida State is No. 10 with Clemson at No. 14 and Miami at No. 19.

NC State plays No. 15 Tennessee on Sept. 7 in Charlotte and No. 14 Clemson on Sept. 21 in Clemson, two games that will likely determine if the Wolfpack are contenders for the 12-team playoff at the end of the season.

UNC is among the teams receiving votes.

The top of the poll is dominated by teams from the expanded SEC and Big Ten. Those two leagues occupy eight of the top nine spots in the poll and 10 of the first 12 teams.

No. 1 Georgia leads the way and received 46 first-place votes. Ohio State is No. 2 and got seven first-place votes.

Oregon, which is now in the Big Ten, placed third. Texas, a new member of the SEC, is fourth and got one first-place vote.

Michigan, which won the title in 2023, is No. 8 with one first-place vote.
