NC State Final Four watch party
A stretch of Hillsborough Street will be closed near NC State University on Saturday during the men’s basketball team’s Final Four game.
A special event permit indicated the street will be closed between Brooks Avenue and Oberlin Road for a block party between 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. on Sunday.
The celebration will happen between Horne Street and Chamberlain Street. The event begins at 5 p.m. with closures coming earlier to help organizers set up.
Mitch’s Tavern, a popular hangout spot for NC State students, organized the event along with Live It Up! Hillsborough.
Several other nearby streets will be closed as well, including:
- Gardner Street between Hillsborough Street and Vanderbilt Avenue
- Horne Street between Hillsborough Street and Vanderbilt Avenue
- Chamberlain Street between Hillsborough Street and College Crest Alley
- Pullen Road between Oberlin Road and Stinson Drive
The Wolfpack’s clash with Purdue in the national semifinal is set to tip-off at 6:09 p.m.
The city said alcohol consumption will be permitted on Hillsborough Street between Horne Street and Chamberlin Street from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. Saturday.
The city will not allow parking along the following streets.
- Hillsborough Street between Brooks Avenue and Oberlin Road
- Gardner Street between Hillsborough Street and Vanderbilt Avenue
- Pogue Street between Hillsborough Street and Vanderbilt Avenue
- Horne Street between Hillsborough Street and Vanderbilt Avenue
- Chamberlain Street between Hillsborough Street and Logan Court
- Logan Court between Hillsborough Street and Hope Street
- Enterprise Street between Hillsborough Street and Hope Street
- Maiden Lane between Hillsborough Street and the dead-end
There’s been plenty of activity on Hillsborough Street in recent weeks, as students and fans have gathered at the Memorial Belltower to celebrate during an improbable nine-game winning streak through the ACC and NCAA tournaments.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, WRAL Sports is airing a 30-minute special called “Wolfpack Pride: Why Not Us?”
The special will chronicle the journeys of both NC State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams to their Final Four appearances.
It will air on WRAL-TV and on the WRAL News+.
